First saw em' in 1990 with Soundgarden and PRONG (no FNM...boo-hoo!) at the Moore Theatre in Seattle. I was new to them, but they had the best T-shirt seleciton of em' all, so me and my buddies buy the coolest looking shirts there were, just to be cool. Turns out Prong got F##cked with typical "opener" band sound mix, but then VV came on and blew my mind. Then Soundgarden came on and had big part in getting me laid later that night.
****1993 at The "Off Ramp" in Seattle, I go with my friends, but we stay in the bar, and by the time we decide to get tickets to the show at the "stage room" portion of the bar, it is sold out. Bollocks!! ***1995 at the "New World Chinesse Restaurant And Lounge" in Seattle. I take my buddy with me, trying to convince him that Voivod, are in fact, better than "Cannibal Corpse." We get to the gig, have some beers, and then I notice AWAY standing against one of the support beams of the establishment, and all I could think of was to say...was "Uh...hey...u gonna play "Tribal Convictions" tonight? And he was like, "Yeah." So eventually Voivod took the stage, and I suddenly noticed that it was only 3 of them. They started to play....and I kept wondering "Where's the singer?" And then some dude on bass started singing and I was totally lost. I knew they had a new album, but I had no idea Snake left....We left after I heard "Tribal and "Astronomy" cause they were the only songs I recognized in part due to the shit sound of the "New World". BARELY passed a breathazlyer test on the way home. Hope they come back here soon.

My first Voivodgig...................., I can't remember much because of to many beers It was the tour with Possessed and Kreator, hmmm 1985/1986??
Then for a couple of years no Voivodgig's for me, but then the TOL tour was there! I saw them 3 times in one week At 2 gig's I did make som dia's, you can see them on voivod.net. The gig in Brunssum is scratched in my mind because the stage was filled with funny painted houses for some schoolplay. The sound and the stage made a special atmosphere I will never forget. But every Voivodgig is special to me.

So many memories of cancellations. It seemed like I was never meant to see Voivod live. Then came the Outer Limits tour at the London Marquee. Blinding. Still one of the best gigs I've seen. Just to hear Unknown Knows and Tribal Convictions right next to each other early on was enough. From there on, I was in a beer-fuelled hypercube frenzy. Then I bumped into emlyn. Guess there's always a downside!
Saw them twice on the Negatron tour. Missed the Phobos one as I was touring myself at the time, and now I await mkIII. Bring it on, fellas!

How do I allways come on Kreator? I have the shirt that say's Voivod, Possessed and.....
Well to many beers indeed

I'm back in Voivodland for something like 2 - 3 years, I left at the time Snake left. I couldn't get enthousiastic with the Eric-voice, felt like destroying my picture of Voivod. In those years we had ollmost every week 1 or 2 gigs and I really lost counting. Not allways blame the beer...........

Anyone has a bootleg of that schoolplay? Anyone saw it? Was the sound any good?

He he, I can imagine Snake doing silly things on this crazy stage. Especially since he was a little goofy at that time...

I still have my late 80's black jeans jacket, full painted, main Logo is Korgüll very big on the back. Every time I see it, I feel nostalgic and get my old record to listen

I first saw Voivod in Denver, Co. I took a taxi from the air force base around the making of Die Hard 2 movie. The driver got lost and wanted to charge me for it. When I got out he wanted a tip. I told him to beat it. Prong opened up and Soundgarden played second. Blacky came out to talk to the sound guy in the middle of the basketball court they were playing on. I went up to Blacky to ask him if he was playing Astronmy Domine, he said, "Yeah, how did you know?" I said it's a great tune, so I figured you would play it. He told me about the time he drove down to Madison Square Garden in 1982 to see Pink Floyd. I said, yeah I saw them last year they were pretty cool. I asked his where was Faith No More. He said, "Faith no more, is No More?" in a joking kind of way. He was upset as I was that they left the tour. We talked some more, but I can't remember what else we talked about, but it was cool to talk with him. When he came out and was playing, he was drinking a beer, I came to the front of the stage and he tried to hand me a cup of beer, someone else tried to grab it from me and it spilt all over my hands. He told me to lick the beer off my hands and arms, so I did. He was laughing at me. I guess I looked funny, but I didn't care. I walked half way home to the Air Force base because I couldn't afford a taxi cab all the way back to the base. I called a cab at a pizza place, the cab came and charged me just as much as the 1st cab since he drove me all the way around the base. I didn't give him a tip either. I haven't taken a taxi to a Voivod show since. I've seen them 3 times this year with Jason. Once with Sepultura and 2 times on Ozfest. I drove my own car to each of those shows with Voivod on my CD player cranked up! Great memories!

Uhm... concert memories. Here's what comes to mind:

Rimouski, Quebec 03/30/1990:
I was all hyped to go to the show, and i had just gotten my drivers liscence 2 or 3 weeks prior to that, so a couple friends of mine and myself were ready to go. Then i came down with the flu, and could hardly move. I called the whole thing off and stayed home. My buds found themselves a new lift and went anyways. Of course they bragged about the whole thing for months.

Le D'auteuil, Quebec city, february 1996:
Big ass snowstorm the day before. Finding a place to park in downtown Quebec city can be challenging in those conditions. TSPC opened, and they apparently blew up the PA. TSPC were more or less popular at the time, and as soon as they left, so did 2/3 of the audience. Voivod played thru incredibly shitty sound and to about 30 people, but it was great. I finally saw them motherfuckers live. Bought two kickass Negatron long sleeves shirts (15$ each, thank you).

Le Kashmir, Quebec City november 1997:
What is it about Voivod and me catching the flu? I went to the show anyways, hopped up on all kinds of cold medicine. Bigger crowd than last time, better sound, better songs. Bought another shirt and a poster (The Outer Limits 3-D). It ruled. Got back to the car to find a parking ticket.

Le Kashmir, Feb. 1999:
Pretty much the same set-list and vibe than the last time. The club was loaded (it was a saturday, like last time... guess that helps) and i know i got furiously drunk. All i remember was bangin' in front of Piggy the whole time.

Le Kashmir, november 2000:
Tuesday night, that means the club was empty. High On Fire opened. I hated 'em. Everyone did! The guitar was actually way too loud, it drowned everything else. And it had to be the most unpleasant guitar sound i ever heard too. My ears physically hurt, so i retreated back at the bar, of course. Voivod came on really late, i dunno, around 1 am. They played two new songs that were to be on the much-touted next album that never happened. Bought a shirt, and took off.

L'Agora, quebec city, july 4th 2002:
I already wrote about that one in some old thread (Skul goes Diovod). Basically, it was perfect until it started to rain. About 2,500 people there, and about 3 of us cared about Voivod. Sucks. But the set-list was great.

I've seen VOIVOD almost 15 times with the original line-up and maybe 2/3 with Eric. But my first, and one of my most merorable VOIVOD's live experience was in 1984 at "Le Festival du Blé d'inde" in Neuville (near Quebec City).
I'm sure if Noiro read this topic he will remembered this chaotic summer evening.

I seem to remeber another thread like this but I'm too lazy to look for it. I'm also too lazy to type a lot of shit so here's a brief history of the Nuclear Vampire meets the Voivod.

The Outer Limits tour. Got to the club. Saw Away hanging around the back by himself. Introduced myself and chatted for a bit. Voivod goes on after local death metallers Immortal Possession rocked the place. Snake saw me singing along at the front and stuck the mike in my face for like half of the Unknown Knows. I know all the words and sang my ass off. Greatest time EVER. Hung out with Snake, Piggy and Away after the show smokin dope and talking music. Fuckin awesome.

The Negatron tour. Same club (The Zoo - fuckin dump). Saw Away again. He remembered me! Introduced me to Eric. Very cool cat. Great show. Louder than last time. Got royally pissed. Talked to all the guys after. I think I scared Piggy. I was trying to tell him some joke about a guy getting a hot Karl (I don't even remeber how it goes) and he's lookin at me like I'm insane coz I keep fuckin laughing like crazy. Good times.

Haven't seen 'em since. Guys, you have to come back!!!

A few show memories...

September 19, 1993 - Rochester, NY at the Penny Arcade: Earlier in the day, they did an in-store appearance at a local record store. Some friends and I wanted to interview the guys, but didn't want to ask them outright, so we talked to their manager (I think) and were told to come to the bus later that night, around 6pm, to talk to Away. If memory serves, we were thinking of starting a 'zine, so the interview was going to be for that. So we knock on the bus door at 6:00 and Piggy answers. He was not sure where Away was, but said that he'd do the interview with us. So we chatted with him for a little while and (among other things) found out that he likes cheesecake. And he liked our far-from-professional multi-colored Kool-Aid tape recorder, too (these last two factoids figure into the memories of some of mye later Voivod shows). He was a nice guy, and to this day my friends and I still talk about how great it was hanging out on Voivod's bus, haha. Oh yeah, the SHOW! I almost forgot about it. There weren't too many people there, unfortunately, but it was still fantastic. It was my first Voivod show, so I was really into it. And, by the way, we never did that zine, either.

October 17, 1996 - Buffalo, NY at the Continental: My first show since Snake left the band. I dug "Negatron", but was really curious to see how the new band came across live. To my delight, they still were pretty amazing. I remember the show being REALLY loud...so loud in fact, that I decided that I really needed to start wearing earplugs when I go to shows (which I still do!). There weren't too many people there for Voivod (they were opening for Pro-Pain for some reason), but I was right up in front, along with one of my friends from the '93 show, who attended with me. At one point in the night, we went over to say hi to Piggy. We didn't think he'd remember us, and he didn't at first. Then we described the interview, and he remembered our colorful tape recorder in particular. We also jogged his memory by mentioning the cheesecake thing. Again, he was a very nice guy. I left before Pro-Pain played because I really didn't care about them too much. Crisis opened the whole show and were great.

October 18, 1996 - Rochester, NY at the Penny Arcade: Voivod 2 nights in a row...it doesn't get much better than that. My friend also attended again, but on the way there, we decided that it would be amusing to get Piggy a gift. No, we didn't get him a colorful tape recorder. But instead, we stopped at a supermarket and got him a cheesecake. There are few weirder feelings than walking into a smoky bar holding a cheesecake. But we soon found Piggy and gave him our gift. He was surprised for sure, but thought it was funny. He was showing it off to the other guys in the band. Away came over and we all chatted for quite a long time. The band played great again, but much like the night before, few people were familiar with the new album. Sucks to be them.

That's it for now...there's many more shows that I've seen since then, but I'll have to write about them another time. I wanted to tell the cheesecake story though. (and in case you're wondering, no, we have not brought Piggy any cheesecakes since that tour...we have thought about it several times, but decided against it).

Le Festival du Blé d'inde" in Neuville, right, The Cornfest (this was way before Ozzfest, lol). If I remember correctly there was a policeman in uniform on the side of the stage at the beginning of the show. We came on stage and Snake noticed the cop and as soon as he had a moment he told our stage manager, letting him know that this guy was looking for trouble. The incident would have gone unnoticed if only the policeman would have got off stage and get lost somewhere else, perhaps to go eat some corn on the cob… After a while the crowd start to jump all over the place, which was the usual for us. We had our own crew to handle the crowd since we knew that you don’t mess with kids, specially when lots of them are pumped. The kids try to jump on stage to do a quick dance until they get pushed off stage by Snake or one of our roadies. Half an hour later Mister Nice Guy, the policeman, decides that he will restore control over who should be where, meaning he went straight into the middle of it all, between the stage and the barricade (fence) that stopped the people to come on stage. That was a fatal move, he was assaulted by about 5 to 10 kids, who saw this as a sign to revolt against authority. During the exchange he was stabbed in the stomach. What did he expect? What a bummer. During the whole thing we continued to play our set and we only got notified about the incident at the end of the show. Perhaps he was thinking that he could stand between the stage and the crowd and keep an eye on the main pole that was in front of the stage so the tent wouldn’t fall on top of us, who knows, we never heard about it after that day, case closed, I suppose.

Fuck me! Well, thats what you get for standing in front of the Unstoppable Korgull Tank (the hand-pedaled one off the front off RRROOOAAARRR!!!).

Thats a more extreme moment to add to the Voivod History, not one I've heard before. Cheers JY.
