What does anyone think of this , Piggy's Jam Tapes, in the downloads section? When was it made? Is away playing drums, and who is playing bass, or is Piggy playing everything? I think it's awesome! I would guess this is from right before or after the outer limits, I'd guess right after outer limits before snake left, then snake left, and they had no bassist--I bet Piggy played everything on this? I actually hope their next album sounds more like this. I really like the sound of everything and the production, especially the drum sound is down to earth and sharp, kind of like Nothingface. The new album is good, but Piggy's jam tapes has more diversity, and isn't always so "huge" sounding--this has huge sounding parts, but also mellow parts, which balances out better. The jam tapes sound more like the band would sound naturally in a basement or studio, the new album sounds a little too huge--which is powerful, but kind of tiring. And the bass playing on this is crazy--there's lots of Blacky-like moments in the bass playing. And ther crazier parts are crazier, more like nothingface/dimension hatross where piggy plays crazy chords and overdubs crazy solos on top. I think some of his craziest, best solos are on the jam tapes--THE NEXT ALBUM NEEDS SOLOS! Also, the jam tapes have the hallmark KT/DH/NOTHINGFACE/JACK LUMINOUS Voivod technique of having at least 18 parts per song--the new Voivod album is good, but kind of dissapointing in that there's only like 3 or four parts per song and no solos...the next album NEEDS to have songs with at least 18 parts!!!
What do you think? I hope voivod release this on CD along with the art book and videos dvd...I think the Piggy's Jam Tapes is as good, or better personally, as Nothingface or Dimension Hatross or any Voivod album, it's the perfect combination of every aspect of the Voivod sound...Let Piggy produce the next album! Each Voivod album has such unique production, very good in different ways, but Piggy's Jam tapes sounds the most natural to me, maybe it's production like bands used to have in the 70's and early 80's instead of the hugely overproduced sounds since the late 80s and especially now where producers just try to make EVERYTHING LOUDER so that it just doesn't sound real, makes me tired because it's so loud all the time...

The Piggy Jams are exactly what they are, jams. Piggy plays everything on them, including bass, and he used a drum machine. They were recorded in the early 90's.

Shame they never used one of these ideas for their albums.

Are you sure...I swear that's real drums. Positive. Positive. But if it is a drum machine, what kind? But I'm sure it's real drums??? It has a rad sound like real drums from the 70s or 80s like led zeppelin, or any sort of metallica, van halen, etc. Also, I mean, I like the drums on nothingface, but since then I think each voivod album has had sort of weird, not really normal sounding drum production. Same with the guitar--kt, dh, and nothingface had great guitar sounds, like piggy just plugged into a marshall. But since then the amp tone has sounded too polished or not real, and too many effects--like, why can't his guitar just sound like zz top, or led zeppelin, or van halen. I hope their next album has crazy music, but with real natural, rock sounding production, kind of what I think kt, dh, and nothingface had...

Also, have you heard the newer live Led Zeppelin releses! The bass sounds rad, like Blacky kind of! The new voivod should sound more real like this, or like led zeppelin studio stuff. Also, on the issue of production, I don't mean anything sounding like Steve Albini--I actually DISLIKE his production. People say it sounds natural or live, but I don't like it. By natural, I mean sounding like Led Zeppelin or Van Halen, or any real rock of the 70s or 80s...

Mmmmm....regarding Steve Albini - I happen to think his albums with Big Black are genius, but I didn't find his production on Walking Into Clarksdale pleasing to the human ear.

It's kind of lucky, in a way, that Bonham died when he did. We've heard the shit they came up with afterwards, haven't we? Not to mention In Through The Out Door...

And yes, that is a drum machine.

Funny you mention that.
One day last week during my daily dose of forced 'Classic Rock Hell'
at work, they played that 'All of My Love' 'thing'.
That song is a reeking, pitiful afterbirth.
Page's guitar work is thin, muddled and milquetoast, and
Robert Plant sounds like a whining, dying little rodent.

Of course, Bonzo sounds great - as usual, but how could they EVER have released that tripe?.

Com'on Tang...at least In Through The Out Door, had the song 'Hotdog' on it...that alone made it worth it to me.

I do think Plant and Page should just call it quits and release old remastered material on dvd and cd from when they still had their chops. It's nice to still hear Deep Purple because they haven't lost anything and still sound fresh...it blows my mind that Gillan can still scream like a mutha and the band was smart to get Morse on the axe. As far as old rock bands that still rock...Deep Purple is the shit!!!

Actually, Deep Purple was a huge favorite of my childhood and teen
years, but I haven't heard anything since 'Perfect Strangers'.
(which I found rather boring, for the most part)
I do like Morse's work with the Dixie Dregs and Kansas, however.
Can you recommend a few tracks from the newer stuff?

Tango, check out the new album, there are some good things... and crap too

Try 'Picture of Innocence', 'Bananas'...
I hadn't heard DP for 15 years, sounds like both Steve Morse and Don Airey are perfect fits!

Morse gave KANSAS new life when he joined them and did the same with DP. I've loved everything he's done with DP (haven't heard the new one 'Bananas' yet).

Some of my fav tracks are:
from PURPENDICULAR (i like all of them):
Vavoom - Ted The Mechanic
Cascades - I'm Not Your Lover
Rosas Cantina
Hey Cisco

from ABANDON (great cd):
Bludsucker (remake of the old DP song)
She Was
Finger To The Bone
Don't Make Me Happy

They have also released 'Live At The Olympia' & 'Live In Austrailia 99' which are 2 incredible double cds and shows Morse totally smoking on all the old DP songs which will make you forget that Blackmore was even in the band. There's also a few killer DVDs with this line up which I highly suggest getting. Incredible 5.1 sound and great filming.

I think it's going to be a DEEP PURPLE day at work!!!
