Cool! My faves in no particular order, of course:DIMMU BORGIR - Death Cult Armaggedon; KREATOR - Live Kreation; VITAL REMAINS - Dechristianize; DREAM THEATER - Train Of Thought; METALLICA - St. Anger; ANTHRAX - We've Come For You All; MACHINE HEAD - Through The Ashes Of Empires. Year's worst: IRON MAIDEN - Dance Of Death; SEPULTURA - Roorback. Special mention: The "thrash rips" thread. -------------------- "Forty-five moments of perfection translated through a cautionary escape into the perils of the mundane, the inherent entropy in ultimate order, and the potential threats of eternal, unchecked apathy in civilization; all cloaked in musical expression so thoughtful, creative and forward thinking that almost a quarter-century later, few can even comprehend it, much less match it." Well, I picked up the new King Diamond today and had a chance to listen to about 1/2 of it on the way home from the store. First impressions: typical King Diamond story telling (I guess that's not a bad thing)Andy LaRue 'smokes'!!! I think I've grown tired of the Kings singing. Maybe a few listens and it will sound better to these ears. Gotta watch the dvd, yet. -------------------- yawn

My entries for this year...1. King Crimson: The Power to Believe (Excellent! And I like this one much more so than their previous Bruford-less effort.) 2. Project: Failing Flesh: A Beautiful Sickness (Brutal stuff from Eric & the Gutierrez bros. who tear shit up on this fine release!!! Love this album lots!) 3. Enslaved: Below the Lights (Took me longer to get into than Monumension, alas the psychadelic & uncompromised nature of Enslaved once again wins me over.) 4. Tomahawk: Mis Gas (I've never been a big oogler of Patton, but this guy hooks up with some of the best cats out there and makes amazing tunes. This disc is no exception.) 5. E-Force: Evil Forces (Post-Voivod Eric is something quite wonderful indeed! This album crushes!) 6. Kreator: Live Kreation (The throne has been conquered! What a worthy purchase!) 7. Led Zeppelin: How The West Was Won (Who else could release 30-year old recordings this fucking sweet!? Well, King Crimson could too, but the list of bands would be mighty short. This 3-disc set rules!) 8. Voivod: Voivod (Tunes like 'The Multiverse' and 'Divine Sun' keep this puppy in the top 10 for me. Although this album was a bit of a disapointment overall, I still like it quite a bit and it shall not suffer the 8-year dust collecting exile endured by my copy of Angel Rat. Poopoo on the bad touring desicions!) Clutch: Slow Hole To China (West-Virginia's finest crank out more quality home-brewed jams! These guys also get best show of the year too! Clutch JAM live!) 10. Opeth: Damnation (Pretty cool IMO) And rounding out the top 20: 11. End Of Level Boss: Experiment EP (Amazing h! I am hooked!)) 12. Sunn 0))): White1 13. Strapping Young Lad: SYL 14. Ohgr: SunnyPsyOp 15. Mastodon: Remission (reissue) 16. Alchemist: Austral Alien 17. Main: Transiency EP 18. YOB: Catharsis (all I have is a rough mix of this album which is absolutly amazing!!!) 19. Rapoon: Rhiz 20. Type O Negative: Life Is Killing Me The "train-wreck that I cannot ignore" award goes to Metallica for the amazing mistake of 'St. Anger'. A record that I hate so much I kinda like and I can't say why! They tried too hard this time and it hurts (them)! Sepultura and Iron Maiden both dropped the ball big-time in 2003 and released completely uninspiring albums. At least Sepultura's has cool artwork... What was Maiden thinking!? Musically, I will remember 2003 mostly for my untimely obsession with Deep Purple (circa 1968-75), and the 'Rare Thrash Rips' thread! Cheers to all who have shared! -------------------- I am a robot... bleep blop bloop
