I saw an article this moring on the Web (BBC I think) about those overrated albums. It's true, there's a LOT of them - same thing can be said for those underrated (there's more of them, anyway..) You could argue a lot on this subject - like politics and religion. Here's a couple of mine. Not in order of preference...or not.10 OVERRATED albums ---- Nevermind - NIRVANA The wall - PINK FLOYD Band on the run - PAUL McCARTNEY Master of puppets - METALLICA Screaming for vengeance - JUDAS PRIEST Hounds of love - KATE BUSH The number of the beast - IRON MAIDEN A night at the opera - QUEEN In the court of the Crimson King - KING CRIMSON Beau Dommage - BEAU DOMMAGE Kool Xtras = ALL of the LED ZEPPELIN albums! 10 UNDERRATED albums ---- Lincoln - LINCOLN Cauchemar americain - AUT'CHOSE Tales of imagination - ALAN PARSONS PROJECT Wheels of steel - SAXON Sold out - THE WHO Iron Maiden - IRON MAIDEN Hit and run - GIRLSCHOOL Live and dangerous - THIN LIZZY Whatever - AIMEE MANN This fire - PAULA COLE Kool Xtras = Danger money - UK Overwhelming Colorfast - OVERWHELMING COLORFAST Evidemment, this list could go on and on. If you spread it to jazz, country, classical... -------------------- VOIVOD STUFF / AUT'CHOSE http://www.lucienfrancoeur.com/voivod_stuff.html http://www.lucienfrancoeur.com/voivod_stuff/index.html http://www.myspace.com/autchose

Bah. Never listened much to this one. You know what Sabbath album is waaaay overrated? Paranoid. Yep. The one everyone calls "their classic" or "their best album" sounds to me like a quicky they recorded between tours. Sure there's War Pigs and some of their classic songs, but come on, there's a lot of fillers on that one, mostly on the b-side. Even Iron Man is a bit overrated to me. Bring me Masters of Reality, Vol. 4, SBS and Sabotage anytime.

The mere mention of any Ozzy-era Black Sabbath + Screaming For Vengeance as overrated albums removes any credibility from this thread. But then, that's just my opinion, go on. P.S.: I like Overwhelming Colorfast, but don't think they're underrated. Their huge Husker Du influence takes away almost all of the personality of their music. -------------------- "Forty-five moments of perfection translated through a cautionary escape into the perils of the mundane, the inherent entropy in ultimate order, and the potential threats of eternal, unchecked apathy in civilization; all cloaked in musical expression so thoughtful, creative and forward thinking that almost a quarter-century later, few can even comprehend it, much less match it." I'm a bit shocked by Halaine Peau's overrated list since most are classic albums; however I can see the point if you are referring to an "I'm sick of hearing about that album from that band!!!!" list. I enjoy pretty much everything on your overrated list yet never heard of BEAU DOMMAGE. shit, I couldn't imagine my collection without those recordings by Floyd, McCartney, KC, Queen, Maiden, Priest, Metallica, or Nirvana. I will say that those were the most overplayed records (because of certain songs) in those bands catalogs, but they are still great albums.I never thought ANY Crimson album was overrated from any period in their brilliant carreer. I never hear ANY KC on the radio, not even 21stCSM. I'd probably list them as the longest running most underrated band (as far as commercial success) along with Voivod, Porcupine Tree (although they are finally getting some respect). Other underrated artists that come to mind are (that also had major distribution... since there are numerous self produced and indie lable bands that don't get the attention they deserve D&T, EOLB,...) : Mordred Satchel Kevin Moore/Chroma Key Souls at Zero (previously known as Wrathchild America) Galactic Cowboys UK -------------------- yawn

I didn't say that these albums aren't classics - they are. Who could argue the impact nevermind had on a generation? But for ME, example, if you wanna judge Thin Lizzy, you can't do it with the Jailbreak album. Idem for Paul McCartney (Ram, London Town has the whole spectrum of solo career), and I won't waste a byte on Beau Bummage . As for King Crimson, I'm so bloody tired to hear people judge that magnificent band only by this album, I'm sick just to think of it... "Tu connais King Crimson, man?" - Ahh ouen. L'album a'ec la face? Çâ, çé leur meilleur! Fuck, çé d'valeur qu'y-on pâs faitte un autre disqu' " (translation from a pure red beef quebecois conversation: "You know KC, man?" - Ahh yeah. The album with the big face? That's their best! Too bad they didn't make another one. So, for me, this album, here in Quebec, is overrated. Probably half of the people knows the band by the picture sleeve... King Crimson is easily in the top ten of the most important bands ever - you can hear/see this rightnow. We can easily start an argument with a thread like this! -------------------- VOIVOD STUFF / AUT'CHOSE http://www.lucienfrancoeur.com/voivod_stuff.html http://www.lucienfrancoeur.com/voivod_stuff/index.html http://www.myspace.com/autchose
