Just in case you weren't feeling too old today, this will certainly change things.. Each year the staff at Beloit College in Wisconsin puts together a list to try to give the faculty a sense of the mindset of this year's incoming freshmen. Here's this year's list:

The people who are starting college this fall across the nation were born in 1987.

They are too young to remember the space shuttle blowing up.

Their lifetime has always included AIDS.

Bottle caps have always been screw off and plastic.

The CD was introduced before they were born.

They have always had an answering machine.

They have always had cable.

They cannot fathom not having a remote control.

Jay Leno has always been on the Tonight Show.

Popcorn has always been cooked in the microwave.

They never took a swim and thought about Jaws.

They can't imagine what hard contact lenses are.

They don't know who Mork was or where he was from.

They never heard: "Where's the Beef?", "I'd walk a mile for a Camel", or "de plane, Boss, de plane".

They do not care who shot J. R. and have no idea who J. R. even is.

McDonald's never came in Styrofoam containers.

They don't have a clue how to use a typewriter.

interesting list.

I'm 41 but don't feel or act old. Major reason is because of the music I listen to keeps me young and demented. The main difference from being young to how I am now is I used to drink beer like it was going out of style back then, but now I rarely have one or 2 a month!!! Other then that and more bills and responsibilities, I'm not much different... for better or worse. I think I'm in almost as good shape as when I was running in high school and college, although I tend to do more work around the house right now instead of working out, but it seems to keep me in decent shape.

You're only as old as ya think or act you are.

I watched some old thrash live cuts on YouTube today, and realised they were shot twenty fucking years ago. I feel old.

Then again, my dad is 61, in pretty good shape and still plays and listens to music actively. The future suddenly looks brighter! I only hope I'll stay healthy and won't lose my hearing before I meet the worms.

40 in March and I don't care

In 1975 a man by the name of Ian Kilminster formed a band called Motorhead. They changed the face of music fundamentally. 31 years on and he's still going like a good un. 31 years on I'm still listening to metal and loving it. Motorhead made me realise there was a whole lot of different music out there. Motorhead are the reason I still stretch out my musical boundaries and I have no intention to rein them in.

Good God, you are right. Even when we were kids, we'd dig backwards to find music we'd missed, so I'd be willing to bet all of us are well-versed in everything from at least the '60s and forward. Kids now have been taught that "right now" is all there ever was and they're not digging to find how music evolved into the shit it's become.

Thats not true - when I was 16 I mostly listened to albums from 10-15 years earlier. I spoke to a 17 year old the other day who knew more about Celtic Frost than I do! Last time I saw Motorhead/Anthrax (2002) there were all ages there, it was real healthy.

When you were 17 did you just like whatever music was shown on TV or did you scan through magazines and dodgy record shops to find the cool stuff? Seeing as we're on Voivodfan I'm guessing it was the latter.

Anyway, I'm 32 and I feel 10 years younger than I did 10 years ago.

You missed the point - they weren't there to experience it for the first time - we were

I'm 35, but I'm still 25 in my head/heart...

Age is all in the head, it's just a matter of staying young at heart and taking care of yourself...

I do have my lil' aches and pains here and there, but nothing that's slowing me down...

And playing in my hardcore band keeps me top-shape

I used to love digging thru record stores and going to record shows and finding cool shit that would blow my mind. I got turned on to Budgie because I found Never Turn Your Back On A Friend at a show and since it had a Roger Dean cover and it was $1.00 I bought it... one spin and I was hooked. Ray Dorsey (local Balto metal head - CHAOS fanzine creator - freak and allround cool mutha) hooked me up with the Nuns Have No Fun from Mercyful Fate at a show. A place called Vinyl Discoveries was my heaven and the guys who worked there knew my taste in music and I'd buy anything they suggested without listening to it first. Discovering new music and great bands is still as much fun these days, but it's a lot harder to find them or I have a more discerning ear than back then.

feeling nostalgic now, thanks

....a perfect description for this topic-"chronocraze"(also the title of an old Obliveon song from their 1990 demo)...turned 37yrs old back on the 19th...aside from seeing a few signs of the "greys"(some strands in my hair and on my beard),I really don't feel my age...it's the music(I particularly relish the crazier, faster stuff as i get older--new Cannibal Corspe cd slays,Slayer is starting to grow on me). I'm still as much into sci-fi and horror since I was five...I do the "exercise" thing ocassionally to keep in decent shape..There's still so many bands out there I want to hear so I'll never get sick of music as long as my health and cognition still stand(examples of encouragement-Lemmy,almost 60yrs old, still playin loud music, drinkin and chasin' the birds)...

I felt old today. I'm 31. A girl, age 21, talked with me about music.

She said: "I like The Strokes."
I said: "Ah, The Strokes."
She: "Wow, you know The Strokes, really?"

WTF, am I her grandpa?

HAHAHA!

I'm 36 and going to be in mom in a few months - that is the only reason I sometimes feel OLD these days. Other than that, I've always felt younger than I am and if people still want to say I look 26, then that's fine with me too!
