Oh come on... You all *knew* that was coming. Let's stoop to the lowest common denominator of forum blandness and post some of your year's favorites! In no particular order, stuff that i spent a significant time listening to in the last 12 months. 1. Amorphis - Eclipse (probably the cd i played the most during the whole year) 2. Dissection - Reinkaos (nobody liked it but me, apparently) 3. Celtic Frost - Monotheist (none more black) 4. Katatonia - The Great Cold Distance 5. Voivod - Katorz (the fact that it was even released made it that much cooler) 6. Argor - Renkaware Onwayben (I think i heard this one way more often than Amorphis... I guess that's cuz I actually recorded it! haha!) 7. Enslaved - RUUN Honorable mentions: Ihsahn - The Adversary Sahg - I Daylight Dies - Dismantling Devotion Best "new to me in 2006" albums that aren't 2006 albums: 1. Taake - Over Bjoergvin Graater Himmerik 2. Disbelief - Spreading The Rage 3. Katatonia - Viva Emptiness 4. Agalloch - The Mantle 5. Falkenbach - Heralding The Fireblade 6. Windir - everything. Gigs: 1. Sahg/1349/Celtic Frost (september, MTL) 2. Twisted Sister / Scorpions (july, QC... 80,000 people!!) 3. Daylight Dies/Katatonia/Moonspell (october, QC)

Best albums of 2006:Celtic Frost - Monotheist Deicide - The Stench Of Redemption Vader - Impressions In Blood Best gig I saw - Wacken, particularly Celtic Frost. Honourable Mentions: Satyricon - Now, Diabolical is growing on me. They still totally kill live. Voivod - For getting Katorz released in spite of all the adversity. Slayer - For rediscovering some of their form on Christ Illusion. There's probably loads more but I can't be arsed! -------------------- Hail Santa...

Good picks as always ms. chaos. Here's mine:THE BIG TWO: AGALLOCH - Ashes Against the Grain CELTIC FROST - Monotheist OTHER ALBUMS I HAD TO PURCHASE IMMEDIATELY: NEGURA BUNGET - Om (does anybody know about this fabulous band from Romania??) USAISAMONSTER - Sunset...(wait a sec., I still haven't received my order yet from the bastards at Load records!! So I guess I can't include this one yet) BEHOLD THE ARCTOPUS - Had to go to their show to really appreciate what they are doing. Bought the latest one which is a total headfuck. GOROD - Leading Vision (best tech death release of the year!) followed closely by this one: ANATA - Conductors Departure MELVINS - Senile Animal (not a huge fan of this band but this album reaches the heights of greatness imo) LIGHTNING BOLT - Hypermagic Mountain (one band impossible to classify!) KYLESA - Time Will Fuse Its Worth (best heavy rock band out there!) Gonna see them on the 20th of Jan. with Cthon.......YEAH!! I would like to make mention of an Oregon band called BLACK ELK. Haven't heard the entire album yet but there's something very special here: http://www.myspace.com/blackelk

Here's the annual Slaytanic best album of the year list in no particular order:VOÏVOD - Katorz (after all am I a Voïvod fan or what?); CELTIC FROST - Monotheist (I worship Monotheist; if you don't, fuck you ); ENSLAVED - Ruun (keeping the high standards); MASTODON - Blood Mountain (I know it's not cool anymore to like this band, but still I love this album); TIM MAIA - Racional (the best re-release of the year by far imo); SATYRICON - Now, Diabolical (the chorus of the title song alone is worth the indication); DARKTHRONE - The Cult Is Alive (Black Metal ); ARGOR - Renkaware Onwayben (more Black Metal ). Gotta go, work's calling. More later. -------------------- "Forty-five moments of perfection translated through a cautionary escape into the perils of the mundane, the inherent entropy in ultimate order, and the potential threats of eternal, unchecked apathy in civilization; all cloaked in musical expression so thoughtful, creative and forward thinking that almost a quarter-century later, few can even comprehend it, much less match it." Yep Now Diabolical is my top album of 2006 I never bothered to give them a go before, but Meg got me into them, and now i have Volcano and Now Diabolical on all the time.Being at the Satyricon show and having Satyr talking Norwegian ruled because that language sounds so damn happy and cheerful. He was a really great performer too working hard to get the pretty small crowd going. Celtic Frost - Monotheist comes in at second. Some songs are excellent and some are so so. Synagoga Satanae is the song of the year though. Nothing comes even close -------------------- "Sir, we are surrounded! - Excellent, then we can attack in any direction!"
