First off..."Hello" to all, I've been away for awhile...been really busy with work/family etc.

Anywho, I'm not so sure on what program(s) I need to deal with encoding or whatever it is I need to rip a DVD. I thought that it was a similiar process as ripping a CD to mp3 files...obviously I was in for a rude awakening. Ultimately I want to be able to share music DVD files along with certain "scenes" or chapters from movies on Youtube. So how come when I open up a DVD to view its chapters, I can't save them to my computer like I can with CD's?

Any help from computer-savvy people (unlike myself) would be greatly appreciated!!!

Cheers!

if you're just looking to grab the audio from a dvd I've used a program called DVD Audio Extractor from plimus.com . It had a 30 day free trial and I used the shit out of it for 30 days creating cds of lots of live dvd concerts. It sounds like you want to audio and video however; but maybe the site has another program that will help you out. There's gotta be some program that makes this easy. A dvd extractor that also compacts the file into a more usable and uploadable file like mp4.

good luck

You're right, Schroeder! DVD Audio Extractor is simply the best program. With some so-called "Back Up-" or "Roll Back"-Programs (e.g Returnil) you're able to use it every time you need...
BTW, the real site is castudio.org/dvdaudioextractor

If you want to rip the whole DVD, i'd prefer the classic "DVD Decrypter" v3.5.4.0. It still does it's job. Just google around and you will find it.
edit: of course, you can rip the chapters (in IFO-Mode)
