Blabbermouth-Norway's DARKTHRONE have dedicated a new song on their upcoming album, "The Cult Is Alive" (out February. 27, 2006 on Peaceville) to fallen guitar hero Denis D'Amour (a.k.a. Piggy) and his pioneering metal band VOIVOD. In new promotional photos of the band on their official website, DARKTHRONE's Nocturno Culto is seen sporting a classic VOIVOD t-shirt. About the tribute to Piggy, Nocturno says, "Hell fuckin' yeah, VOIVOD totally rules! I place VOIVOD among my other faves from the '80s. We have dedicated one of our songs on the new album to Piggy and VOIVOD, it's called 'Atomic Coming'." D'Amour died August 26, 2005 in a Montreal hospital from complications of advanced colon cancer. Adds Nocturno Culto, "DARKTHRONE sends their best regards to the old gods and can't wait to hear the new album when it comes out." VOIVOD are currently working with producer Glen Robinson on their as-yet-untitled album. The band are utilizing all of the guitar parts that Piggy had recorded for the record on his laptop with ProTools before his death. VOIVOD's much-anticipated CD should surface late spring on The End Records in North America.

Sounds better than Malaodroeoroargh, actually. Or Slaÿtanic. Seriously though, as Razor pointed out, that's cool to see another Black Metal band saluting Piggy and Voivod, even if the influences are not always noticeable. -------------------- "Forty-five moments of perfection translated through a cautionary escape into the perils of the mundane, the inherent entropy in ultimate order, and the potential threats of eternal, unchecked apathy in civilization; all cloaked in musical expression so thoughtful, creative and forward thinking that almost a quarter-century later, few can even comprehend it, much less match it." Now that you pointed that out, I do see W&P and Roar all over the latter Darkthrone work, at least. Never thought of it before, actually, probably because I was too busy looking for all the Celtic Frost oohs and heys. -------------------- "Forty-five moments of perfection translated through a cautionary escape into the perils of the mundane, the inherent entropy in ultimate order, and the potential threats of eternal, unchecked apathy in civilization; all cloaked in musical expression so thoughtful, creative and forward thinking that almost a quarter-century later, few can even comprehend it, much less match it." From Blabbermouth: quote: "BLABBERMOUTH copy and paste" method induce flame wars at Voivodfan.com - Dec. 22, 2005.The procedure of copying articles from Blabbermouth and pasting them on various band forums is a well known one and is surely interesting to us, being that it might get new people interested in checking this site out. Looks like things got slightly out of control at voivodfan.com's Forum lately, though. After two members of the community posted the same BB news relating Raven to Voivod, one of the moderators, namely "Skulhed", decided to delete one of the posts, which let the author of the thread deleted, "LivingEvil", not very satisfied. Claiming that the moderator deliberately deleted his thread in favor of the another, created by an allegedly more popular member, "Mezcalhead", the "victim" started his protest regarding his right to post at will without being censored. He even threatened to not post anymore on the Forum. Apparently his claim was backed by other members of the community, who, apart from a member called "chaosmongirl", decided not to manifest their dissatisfaction openly. When asked about the whole situation, "Skulhed" declined to speak and told us to "get a life". Grunts of "crybaby" and "drama queen" could be heard while he walked away, though. Other members of the forum stated that "Skul doesn't have favourites. He just has varying degrees of contempt. What the hell LivingEvil did to get below even Mez, I don't want to know!" All of us at Blabbermouth are concerned about the situation and can only hope everything ends well.
